Martha worked as a rodeo clown for a few years before she began competing in rodeos herself. She quickly became one of the top cowgirls in the country and won numerous championships. In 1984, she was inducted into the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame and in 2001, she was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame.
