The 6" cheek has a 2-1/2" purchase and a 3-1/2" shank. This ratio (the difference in the length of the purchase and shank) and the swept-back design of the shank make this a mild cheek. Contact with the horse’s mouth comes slowly in the form of soft pressure to all points of contact. The main point of contact is the corners of the mouth, which is a familiar spot from the O Ring. This bit may also be used with a training fork or martingale to encourage collection and poll control. The mouthpiece is inlaid with copper to stimulate salivation. The mouthpiece is 5-1/8" wide, 3/8" in diameter, and curved to shape to the corner of the mouth for soft, evenly distributed pressure to the bars, tongue, and corners of the mouth.
Snaffle
The 6" Cheek snaffle is the softest of all shank bit styles. Transition bit for colts moving up from the O Ring. Soft pressure is applied through the curb.
The 7-1/2" Cheek snaffle is one of the most popular bits with all horsemen. It applies more pressure to the tongue than the dogbone, giving it a quicker response. Offers lateral pull and collection.
Short Correction
A slight step up from the snaffle. Applies pressure to the chin, bars and corners of the mouth. Gives added pressure to the tongue for more feel.
Chain
Stainless steel cheek with an inlaid copper chain mouthpiece. Good for reiterating bend and flex. Mild and pinchless sweet iron is comfortable, and applies even pressure to the corners of the mouth and tongue.
Floating Spade
Stainless steel cheek with copper inlaid floating spade mouthpiece that wraps over the tongue with pressure. This is a great bit to introduce a horse to palate pressure as you transition to ported bits.
Dogbone
This versatile mouthpiece wraps the tongue when pressure is applied. Pressure is also realized on the chin from the curb strap to the bars and corners of the mouth. This bit works well on well broke young horses or light-mouthed older horses.
Ported Chain
Stainless steel cheek with a copper inlaid ported chain mouthpiece. This comfortable and pinchless mouthpiece allows for tongue relief while providing flex and bend. It also encourages the horse to break at the poll. Ideal for finished, well broke horses.
Low Port Barrel
This highly universal bit works well for anything from training to pleasure or competition. The low port provides tongue relief as slight pressure is applied to the bars of the mouth and the palate. Each side works independently from the port for increased lateral flexion.
Ported Twisted Wire
Advanced bit applies pressure to all parts of the mouth and sides of the tongue. Side
pieces move independently with enhanced leverage and lift from twisted wire mouthpiece for desired stop and collection.
Correction
Extremely popular with performance riders and trainers. Taller port creates more palate
pressure. Mouthpiece applies increased pressure to the sides of the tongue. Designed for finished, well broke horses of all disciplines.
